Research Areas
Our research is dedicated to the physical understanding of acoustical phenomenona in the ocean and its application. The area of research includes analytic and numerical modeling, exploratory data processing and analysis, and advanced development of solutions, based on understanding of sound propagation in the ocean media and boundaries. We currently conduct the research in the following focus areas:
Sound Propagation Modeling - Range dependent propagation modeling using the parabolic
equation (SNUPE) - Pseudo-spectral time-domain (PSTD) propagation modeling - Wave propagation modeling in the porous
medium
Reverberation and Scattering Modeling - Time-domain reverberation modeling with ray theory - Ocean surface scattering with PSTD method - Target scattering modeling
Ocean Sediment Acoustics - Sound in the porous medium - Shallow water
acoustics with the ocean sediment
Sonar Applications for AUV - Obstacle avoidance system using active sonar (SNUUV
1) - Concurrent mapping and localization
Matched Field Processing - Robust matched field source localization - Model based geoacoustic inversion
Underwater Communication - Underwater waveguide channel estimation - Adaptive equalizer in the underwater channel
Flow Noise Reduction - Acoustics of ducts and mufflers
